Erecting Monuments to Fallen Slovenian Soldiers in Ukraine, Poland and Russia

The Committee on the Defence of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia gave an initiative to the Slovenian National Committee for the 100th Anniversary of World War I to erect monuments to Slovenian soldiers in Galicia. A working group was formed in which participated representatives of the Walk of Peace Foundation, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts as well as individual embassies. The competent ministries appointed the Foundation as the coordinator of setting up all three monuments. The monuments in Gorlice and Lviv were unveiled on 22 and 23 may 2018, and the bigger monument in Victory Park in Moscow in September 2019. The unveiling of the monuments was attended by the highest representatives of Slovenia (President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor in Gorlice; Minister of Defence Andreja Katič in Lviv; and Prime Minister Marjan Šarec in Moscow) and other representatives from the spheres of culture, science, and economy.
