After the retreat of Italian troops in 1917 to the Piave River line, from Mt. Grappa to the sea, the villa, which dates back to the 16th century and was commissioned by the Contarini family of Venice, became part of a group of historical buildings used as military hospitals for sick and wounded soldiers from the front. The villa was then called Ospedale da Campo n. 184 (Field hospital no. 184) and it provided 50 beds. Adjacent to the villa is a small but fascinating Park of Remembrance, laid out in 1925. It features a monumental facade overlooking the Riviera. It was designed by the architects Gastone Isera and Giovanni Possamai. The green area is crossed by several paths, flanked by dozens of bronze commemorative spears, each bearing a name of a fallen soldier.
