The Doberdò plateau has left an indelible imprint on the Slovenian collective memory. A Slovenian folk song dates from that time, entitled Oj, Doberdob (Oh, Doberdò), which suggestively recalls the heavy fights and the graves of numerous youths: Oj Doberdob, oj Doberdob, slovenskih fantov grob (Oh, Doberdò, oh, Doberdò, the grave of Slovenian lads…). The monument, dedicated to the fallen Slovenian soldiers on the Isonzo Front, was unveiled in 2016.
You can access Doberdò del Lago/Doberdob following SP15 from Gorizia/Gorica or from Ronchi dei Legionari/Ronke. In the village turn to Via Martiri della Libertà and at the end of the street turn right to Via Giardino. The monument is located inside the perimeter wall close to the parking lot.
