The The Carnic Zone during the Great War 1915–1918 Museum (La Zona Carnia nella Grande Guerra 1915‒1918) in Timau exhibits many remains and other items found on the surrounding elevations. Part of it is dedicated to Carnic porters. The museum is managed by the Associazione Amici delle Alpi Carniche and the Municipality of Paluzza.

In addition to various items, weapons, military equipment, photographs, there are also an alcohol barrel, stoves used by soldiers for warming themselves, documents on surgical operations, medicines, surgical instruments, stretchers and prosthetic limbs.
A visit to the museum can serve as a starting point for visits to the nearby outdoor museums Pal Piccolo/Kleiner Pal and Freikofel, located above the Passo di Monte Croce Carnico/Plöckenpass.

Access and useful info

Access

From the A23 Palmanova–Tarvisio/Trbiž/Tarvis motorway, take the Carnia exit. Take the SS52 state road to Tolmezzo, continue from Tolmezzo along the SS52 bis state road towards the pass Passo di Monte Croce Carnico/Plöckenpass on the border with Austria.
