Zdravko Marcola’s private collection started to take shape around the year of 1999 and today contains around 1,500 items. In the beginning the owner mostly collected items connected with World War I, the majority of his collection still originates from this period, with later additions of farming, shoemaking and carpentry tools, and other everyday items. Most of the items that are on display were found in the vicinity of the battlefields of World War I and the area of Breginjski kot. Some ethnographic items were given to the collector as a gift or formed a part of the family heirloom. The collection is housed in an extension of the owner’s home. Despite not being the largest collection, it displays some really interesting and rare items.
It is especially fascinating for aficionados and researchers of the remains of World War I, who will find some really rare pieces of arms and several small personal items from the soldiers who fought and were stationed in the Upper Soča Valley in the beginning of the 20th century.
From Kobarid, drive towards Italy and at the roundabout in the village of Staro selo exit for Breginj. Follow the road to Breginj and just behind the village sign turn right. The museum collection is in the house on the left side of the road.
