The Austro-Hungarian military cemetery Renče–Lukežiči adjoins the civil cemetery. Buried in the military cemetery are the Austro-Hungarian soldiers who died in the nearby military hospital at Renče. According to the data of Italian authorities that organized exhumation of soldiers from military cemeteries in the 1930s, 1,600 soldiers are buried here. Fixed to the wall in the west section of the cemetery are grave crosses – the remains of the arranging of military cemeteries carried out by the Italian authorities in the 1920s and 1930s. The central monument, dedicated to the fallen soldiers, bears the inscription:
“Ihr Helden der Isonzowacht, Schlaft ruhig bis im Strahlenlichte Der grosse Tag erwacht – was ihr vollbracht. Verkündet ewig die Geschichte.” (You heroes who kept watch over the Isonzo, / might you rest in peace until a radiant light / wakes up the great day of your achievement. / History will forever spread the word about it.)
Register of the Fallen Soldiers
The military cemetery is located next to the civil cemetery at the fringe of the village of Renče in the direction towards Lukežiči. The easiest access to the cemetery is to go from Volčja Draga towards Renče; at the parish church of Sts. Hermagoras and Fortunatus turn towards Lukežiči. On the left side of the road, after a good 500 metres, there is the civil cemetery with the military cemetery adjacent to it.
