The Natural Reserve of Monte Lanaro/Volnik is situated on the Trieste Kras (Carso triestino) near the state border with Slovenia. It extends on the area of 285 hectares. The central point of the reserve, which features typical karst plateau landscapes and well-preserved woodlands, is Mt. Lanaro/Volnik. Because of the high biodiversity of this area, the reserve was included in the list of Natura 2000 areas. The reserve is crossed by several paths that lead to the top of Mt. Lanaro. One of them is also a 10 kilometres long circular path that starts in Sagrado/Zagradec.
