The Museum of the Great War (Museo della Grande Guerra) in Gorizia/Gorica is housed in the basement of the medieval palace on the castle hill (Borgo Castello). Presented are events in Gorizia and on the surrounding hills during World War I. On display are various objects, historical valuables, Austro-Hungarian and Italian uniforms, models of the city and the two surrounding elevations, Calvario/Kalvarija and Sabotin, a room dedicated to General Armando Diaz, and a life-size trench where the deafening sound of shells offers to visitors a quick experience of what it was to be a soldier on the front.
The Museum of World War I is located on the Castle Hill in Gorizia. When you reach the historic city centre, follow the signposts for “Borgo Castello”. Soon after the gate of Porta Leopoldina there is the Museum on the left.
