The village San Martino del Carso/Martinščina in the heart of serene karstic nature was suddenly placed in the centre of a battlefield in 1915. Numerous shelling attacks ravaged it completely. The village became famous, especially in Italy, thanks to the poem San Martino del Carso by the poet Giuseppe Ungaretti. In the village it is possible to visit a private collection, Memories of the Great War (Ricordi della Grande Guerra). Displayed are several finds and materials discovered in San Martino del Carso/Martinščina, on Mt. San Michele/Debela griža and in the surrounding areas. The museum collection is open only by appointment.
Coming to San Martino del Carso/Martinščina on SP9 (Via Piantella) turn to Via Zona Sacra. The museum collection is right after the intersection on the right side.
