The Museum of the Middle Ages in Monfalcone (Museo Medievale di Monfalcone), located on the ground floor of the municipal building, showcases excavations discovered during the buildingʼs renovation. These artifacts tell the story of everyday life in the late Middle Ages (tools for work and general use, ceramics and coins) in an agricultural area at the border of patriarchal territory with the estates of the Counts of Gorizia and Duino.
A significant find is a sword from the period between the late 13th and 15th centuries, discovered in the area of a blacksmithʼs workshop. At that time, the town served as a checkpoint against Turkish incursions.
Findings from the city’s oldest foundations offer a new interpretation of life in the area under the Patriarchate of Aquileia and the dominance of the Venetian Republic, which ended in 1797. A few years earlier, the process of dismantling the city walls had begun, leaving only a few fragments visible today.
