The pastureland under Mt. Krn is a popular hiking destination as well as an important starting point for hiking to surrounding mountain tops. The area is full of natural, cultural and historic sites and many marked paths and trails pass through.
This Cheese Trail connects 4 mountain pastures in a circular trail: Pretovč (1,142 m), Lapoč (1,150 m), Kašina (1,050 m) and Kuhinja (1,020 m). All mountain pastures lie within the borders of Triglav National Park. Which one will you have the pleasure of visiting and the tasting of local specialities which await you?
The hiking trail also passes the World War I outdoor museum Mrzli vrh. The top of the mountain offers a beautiful view over the former battlefield of the Isonzo Front. The ridge is crisscrossed with numerous trenches and caves. In a small area, the remains of both the Austro-Hungarian and the Italian first line of defence can be seen. In one of the caves an altar, which was made by the Hungarian soldiers, can still be seen.
