The 510 metres high elevation at the southern side of the Tolmin Basin did not enter history with bloody battles, as the front line ran across the neighbouring Mt. Mengore. Mt. Bučenica was thus the immediate rear for Austro-Hungarian soldiers on Mt. Mengore, and it probably played the greatest role in the Twelfth Isonzo Battle, when it served as a starting point for the troops of the German Alpine Corps.
We recommend a circular trail that starts at Labrca. Follow the Walk of Peace signposts to the outskirts of the village Volče, then turn left for Mt. Bučenica in the direction of the village Modrejce. The footpath leads above the village and then turns towards the top of Mt. Bučenica. Continue in the direction of Mt. Mengore and from the saddle between Mengore and Bučenica you turn downwards to the right along the Walk of Peace to the village Volče and back to the starting point. The whole loop will take you 3.5 hrs (8.7 km).
Access to the top of Mt. Bučenica is also possible from the Poljance pass (45 min. to the top) or from the direction of the village Modrejce (1 hr).
