During World War I the entire area of Tarvisio/Trbiž/Tarvis, including Val Saisera/Zajzera and Valbruna/Ovčja vas, belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the heart of Val Saisera, the Austro-Hungarian Army built two defence lines as a protection against a possible Italian attack from the valley of Val Dogna.
The outdoor museum was opened in 2012 and shows what is left of the defence line (Vordere Saisera Linie). You can navigate through the thematic park by following 3 rings (green, red, blue) based on the chosen difficulty. The outdoor museum offers quite a lot of interesting points to see: trench Vordere Saisera Linie, Sasso Bucato, Villa Anna, U-Kaverne and MG-Kaverne, Fuss Nabois and Geschütz Kaverne.
From Tarvisio/Tarvis/Trbiž follow the road SS13 towards Udine and at the intersection for Val Saisera turn left and continue for another 6.3 kilometres. Follow the signposts for Valbruna/Ovčja vas and after the village, follow the signposts for Val Saisera. Park your car next to the Montasio shelter and continue on foot. Go back for 200 metres, turn right and follow the indications for the outdoor museum. You can choose between three rings: green, blue, red, which depends on the difficulty level you want.
