Walk of Peace at the Interreg GO! Event

26th March 2025

The Walk of Peace Foundation participated together with colleagues from ZRC SAZU, Posoški razvojni center, PromoTurismoFVG and GECT GO / EZTS GO at the Interreg GO! Annual Meeting. The event took place within the framework of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica Gorizia.

A special focus was placed on the Interreg GO! Youth Event at the University of Gorizia, which was dedicated to young people from across Europe. Nicola Revelant from PromoTurismoFVG presented to the conference participants the Walk of Peace concept, its achievements and future goals. The importance of cross-border cooperation was also highlighted in speeches by Laura Comelli (Head of Managing Authority, Interreg Italy‒Slovenia), Barbara Zilli (Regional Councillor of Friuli Venezia Giulia), Slawomir Tokarski (Director for European Territorial Cooperation, Macro-regions, Interreg, and Programme Implementation, European Commission), and Mojca Aljančič (Director-General of the Directorate for Cohesion at the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development of the Republic of Slovenia).

At the same time, on Sabotin, Maša Klavora shared 20 years of experience of the Walk of Peace Foundation and its key partners in EU projects, as well as in the development of the Walk of Peace cross-border trail, which stands as one of the best practice examples of European cooperation. Katarina Kogoj and Bogdan Potokar guided participants through the Visitor centre and outdoor museum Sabotin, where numerous investments have been made with the support of Interreg projects. The historical significance of the cross-border region was further explained by Marko Klavora (Goriški muzej) and Jérôme Robins, a guide from Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The Interreg GO! Event is undoubtedly one of the key gatherings that will influence the future territorial cooperation programmes under the EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034.
