GOV4PeaCE Project Kick off Meeting, Kobarid, 21–23 May 2024

The kick-off meeting of the GOV4PeaCE project partners took place from 21 May to 23 May in Kobarid and at three key locations of the Walk of Peace.

The first day of the meeting was dedicated to the introduction and presentations of the project partners and associated partners, while the second day was focused on presenting the content and implementation rules of the project within the Interreg Central Europe programme, as well as a detailed discussion on the activities contained in the three work packages.

This was followed by lunch and a visit to some key locations on the Walk of Peace; the Russian Chapel, the Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Log pod Mangartom, and Fort Kluže. The day concluded with a delicious dinner from local providers.

On May 23rd, the GOV4PeaCE project was presented to the public in the premises of the Walk of Peace Foundation. The Soča Valley Development Centre and the Walk of Peace Foundation, in cooperation with partners from eleven countries, presented the project between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The presentations were followed by introductory remarks from:

  • Marko Matajurc, Mayor of the Municipality of Kobarid,
  • Simon Škvor, Director of the Soča Valley Development Centre,
  • and Anna Sirocco, representative of the Central Europe Programmeʼs Joint Secretariat.

The project was then presented in more details by Maša Klavora (The Walk of Peace Foundation) and Vesna Kozar (Soča Valley Development Centre).

After the introductory remarks and presentations, speeches were given by key stakeholders:

  • Zdravko Likar, founder of the Walk of Peace Foundation,
  • Vesna Humar, State Secretary at the Office for Slovenes from abroad and the Government Coordinator for Cooperation between the Republic of Slovenia and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region for the implementation of the European Capital of Culture,
  • Špela Spanžel, Acting Director-General of the Cultural Heritage Directorate at the Ministry of Culture,
  • Matjaž Ravbar, Acting Director-General of the Directorate for War Veterans and Military Heritage at the Ministry of Defence,
  • Metka Lajnšček, Head of the Department for Neighboring Countries and Cross-border Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs,
  • Marjeta Pečarič, Head of the Department for Interreg Programmes at the Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development,
  • and partners from abroad (World War I Museum from Ieper, Belgium, Municipality of Gorlice from Poland, and World War I Museum from Rovereto, Italy).
