From May 1915 to November 1917, the area of the Upper Soča Region was flooded with Italian, Austro-Hungarian and at the end German troops. Due to the key events of the breakthrough in the 12th Isonzo Battle, Kobarid entered into the world history and the vocabulary of the Italian nation.
On the surrounding hills and mountains, the remnants of World War I are well preserved (trenches, caverns, churches and chapels, memorials, military cemeteries,…) and represent a cultural and historical heritage of international importance.
The 5-day self-guided programme offers a visit to the main restored silent witnesses of that time and the natural beauties that this corner of Slovenia has to offer.
The starting point of the 5-day programme is the small town of Tolmin, from where you will reach the starting points of the hikes with organized transfers. You will visit some outdoor museums (Kolovrat, Mengore, Mrzli vrh), the wonderful Kobarid Museum, which offers an important historical reconstruction of the events on the Isonzo Front and the famous battle at Kobarid. While hiking among these indelible remains, you will also enjoy the natural beauties of this area.
