The journey along the traces of World War I on the Kras continues with this stage, covering the southernmost section of the Isonzo Front, from Redipuglia/Redipulja to Monfalcone/Tržič.
From the starting point, you ascend the karst edge either by the stairs of the Charnel House in Redipuglia or along the asphalt road (Via Carso, route sign CAI 77) that starts on the right of the charnel house
At the junction on the top, turn right towards Doberdò del Lago/Doberdob and within a few minutes you reach the outdoor museum Dolina del XV Bersaglieri. After crossing the macadam track, you can view the remains of the branched Italian trenches (Trincerone italiano), along which you can come to the top of Monte Sei Busi.
Back to macadam track, continue towards Doberdò del Lago, thus following the course of military movements on the plateau after the initial Isonzo battles. After about an hour’s walk along the macadam track, rimmed with low karst vegetation, you reach the first houses and the asphalt road (Via Osimo).
To the right, you can see a prominent monument dedicated to Slovenian soldiers who fell on the Isonzo Front.
At the junction with Via Gorizia, keep to the right and continue along the sidewalk to Via Vallone; follow the signposts for the Visitor Centre Gradina. After about a 20-minute walk along a narrow road, which is open to traffic, you reach the reception centre and thus enter the Natural Reserve of the Doberdò and Pietrarossa Lakes.
After a half an hour walk along the CAI 78 trail, which is easy at first but then a few steeper sections follow, you reach the Casa Cadorna refuge, where a beautiful view opens over Lago di Doberdò/Doberdobsko jezero lake.
Descend from the Cadorna refuge towards the lake where you reach CAI 72 and then CAI 82 and you soon arrive to the fringe of Monfalcone/Tržič, where the Rocca fort stands, then go and visit the last but significant point of this stage, the WW1 thematic park Parco Tematico della Grande Guerra di Monfalcone.
