The Monument of Peace Cerje

Your journey through Slovenian history starts under the shiny stars. Stop at the monument, dedicated to the oldest preserved written word in Slovenian language – the Freising manuscripts. On the ground floor, you will be astonished by the lifework of Rudi Španzel, i.e. his painting “The Dance of Life and Death” that reminds us of the horrors and largeness of World War I. In the cellar, the exhibition People and War is staged. It presents wars in all aspects and displays how the war impacted on individual lives. The exhibition abounds in emotional detail and makes a strong impression on every visitor. You can continue to the upper floors of the Monument of Peace, where you can see the recent periods of Slovenian history. The main emphasis is put on the time of World War I and the Isonzo Front, the story of the TIGR anti-fascist movement and the tragic experience of local inhabitants, who had to emigrate during the wars. Through fascism and World War II, the story of Slovenia is completed with its independence. On the highest, fifth floor, the covered platform offers breathtaking views of the landscape and architecturally symbolises the prospect of a bright future.

Besides permanent exhibitions, occasional exhibitions of distinguished artists are also hosted.
